Public awareness of silent sound events in the UK is concentrated in London, and focusses on the celebrated achievements of Photoplay productions, and a few well-known composers. Elsewhere in Europe, there are professional musicians whose work for this medium offers a similarly exciting interpretation of classic films. Orchestras in the Netherlands, France and Germany, frequently commission and present symphonic silent sound events. There is a wealth of original musical talent and numerous classic silent films which, when brought together, can enrich the repertoire. It is our purpose to explore the possibilities, and to present the results to audiences at prestigious locations.

The world premiere of the new symphonic score for Lucky Star by Stuart Hancock was held at The Royal Festival Hall on Friday 23 February 2001, starting at 7.45pm. There was a pre-performance discussion with the composer in the Chelsfield Room introduced by film author David Robinson
